Halifax Regional Municipality, Nova Scotia
Port Wallace is a residential community in the Dartmouth area of Halifax Regional Municipality, Nova Scotia. It sits north of Burnside Industrial Park and east of Lake Charles, in a part of HRM that has seen significant new development over the past decade. If you bought a house in greater Dartmouth since 2015, there is a reasonable chance you looked at Port Wallace.
The area is defined by its proximity to two things: Burnside, which is the largest industrial park in Atlantic Canada and a major employment centre, and the lakes and green space that surround the community. Lake Charles and Lake William are close enough to walk to from most of the newer subdivisions. The trail network through the surrounding woodlands connects to the broader HRM active transportation system, though not every connection is complete.
Port Wallace is not a historic village with a main street. It is a modern suburban community built around cul-de-sacs, crescents, and collector roads. The housing stock is mostly recent construction: single-family homes, townhouses, and some semi-detached units built to meet the demand from people working in Burnside, at the Dartmouth Crossing retail area, or commuting across the harbour to Halifax via Highway 111 and the bridges.
Services are concentrated in nearby Dartmouth Crossing and along Wright Avenue. There is no downtown Port Wallace. Groceries, restaurants, and retail are a short drive rather than a walk for most residents. Schools in the area are served by the Halifax Regional Centre for Education. The community is young in both senses: most of the houses are new, and many of the residents are families with children.
